Timothy Page Takes the Top Spot in the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier at Pembrokeshire County Show

The Pembrokeshire County Show played host to the penultimate Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier of the season and it was a determined Timothy Page who took the top spot on board Derek Meeds’ Granby. This pair have now secured a much coveted place in the Championship Final which will be held at the Horse of the Year Show in October.

Under the watchful gaze of a captivated crowd, twenty-nine competitors began the battle to claim one of the three qualification places available for the Final. With just six combinations able to produce a clear in the first round, the tension was high as they began the jump off and all were hoping to pin down a double clear and a top three placing.

Drawn in the middle of the field, Timothy from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk managed to produce a blistering round. Steering the 10 year-old grey gelding Granby to a double clear, the pair crossed the finish line in just 37.68 seconds to take victory.

Sophie Heaven from Rumney, Cardiff took second place on board Glynn Slater’s 7 year-old grey mare, Quite Like It. After producing one of the quickest first round clears, this combination posted their second clear in 38.42 seconds.

It was Hannah Hughes from Porth, Mid Glamorgan who scooped the final qualifying place on Tekila Sun Belin, a 9 year-old bay mare owned by Michelle Hughes. This pair produced their double clear in 40.75 seconds.
