Olivia Brightmore is Victorious in the Final STX-UK Pony Foxhunter Second Round at the Welsh Home Pony

The final STX-UK Pony Foxhunter Second Round competition took place this weekend at the Welsh Home Pony Show, held at the David Broome Event Centre.

In a competitive field of 35 starters, seven combinations unlocked the key to a clear round and advanced to the second round, where the field was reduced further to just three for the final jump-off.

It was Olivia Brightmore who emerged victorious riding Rachel Brightmore’s Whatsapp Van Duyversputten. The pair delivered two faultless rounds before just tapping out the front bar of the oxer mid-way round the jump-off for four faults but finished with the fastest time of 40.63 seconds.

Close behind in second was Tara Sweetnam, aboard Brian Sweetnam’s Klassic, who also jumped clear in the first two rounds and incurred four faults in the jump-off, finishing in a slower 52.38 seconds after a refusal at the third from last fence. India Vilarrubi and Joe Whitaker’s Elka Maura Flint took third, having jumped two clear rounds before withdrawing ahead of the jump-off knowing her qualification place was secure.  Fourth place went to Lucia Caroline, riding Lee Caroline’s The Beast From The East, who posted a clear in round one but picked up four faults in the second, just missing out on a place in the jump-off.

Attention now turns to the STX-UK Pony Foxhunter Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships next week, where ponies and riders will have their last chance to qualify for the Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.
