The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE)

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) has been hugely successful in developing and preparing talented young athletes (age 16-19) who have a real chance of excelling in their sport and competing on the international stage.

In October 2013, British Showjumping and Haddon Training Ltd will begin its second AASE programme, offering selected talented riders the chance to improve their skills whilst learning how to manage all aspects of life in a professional sport. This Level 3 programme offers riders the chance to continue their education gaining a nationally recognised qualification in a relevant and inspiring environment, whilst simultaneously benefiting from a comprehensive training and support programme delivered from Showjumping’s top coaches and experts. 

Topics include:

  • Jumping and Pole Work
  • Flatwork for Jumping
  • Rider Fitness and Physiotherapy
  • Equine Nutrition and Physiology
  • Human Drug Control
  • Athlete Nutrition
  • Sports Psychology
  • Career and Financial Planning
  • Lifestyle Management
  • Media and Communications
     

Commitment

Riders must attend six two-day training Camps between October 2013 and November 2014.  These will usually be held at a Central location in England.

Who is eligible?

Riders do not need to have any formal academic qualifications but they must have the potential to achieve GCSE level Maths and English if they do not hold these qualifications. They must not be attending a State school or college.

Riders must live or work in England and be available to attend all training camps.  The first two Camps will be held at Solihull Riding Centre 14-15 October and 9-10 December 2013.

Showjumping experience:

  • have a horse on the equine pathway
  • have a horse that has attended young horse training with the reference from a coach
  • Have jumped 2 double clears at 1.30
  • have jumped 2 double clears at 1.20 showing progression with the reference from a coach
