‘TEAM CHAMPION’ KICK OFF 2009 CAMPAIGN IN LUMMEN
Monday 27 April 2009
The four riders who will represent Great Britain and sport the new ‘Team Champion’ branding at the first Nations Cup of the 2009 season have been selected.
Guy Williams, Guy Goosen, Gemma Plumley and Gemma Paternoster, accompanied by Chef d’Equipe and Performance Manager Derek Ricketts, will all travel to Lummen in Belgium at the end of the month to contest the first Nations Cup of 2009.
Guy Williams from Canterbury in Kent will ride his own thirteen year-old bay gelding Torinto van de Middelstede. Guy has recently enjoyed a superb Sunshine Tour in Spain, winning the Invitational Grand Prix and taking home the £22,000 winners purse.
Guy Goosen, currently based in Germany will partner Tina Goosen’s eleven year-old bay stallion Tinka’s Son. Guy will be hoping to emulate his last appearance on a British Team when he and Tinka’s Son produced a double clear round in Prague at the end of last season.
Gemma Plumley from Chepstow in Gwent will make her senior Team debut aboard Johnsey Estates ten year-old bay mare, Lutine du Charmois. Gemma too has recently enjoyed success on the Spanish Sunshine Tour picking up several Grand Prix placings throughout the Tour.
Gemma Paternoster from Newbury in Berkshire will ride her own thirteen year-old bay gelding Osiris, a horse with whom she was crowned Young Rider European Champion in Athens in 2006. Gemma has recently returned from a trip to the United States where she competed at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida.
‘Team Champion’ will be sporting brand new ‘Team Champion’ kit, easily identifiable in black and silver, which has been designed and supplied by Champion exclusively for the Teams. In addition each Team member will also wear a British Team Champion riding hat, sporting the union flag.
Champions sponsorship of the British Nations Cup Team is the result of the brand’s deep-seated belief in the importance of continual development, dedication and professionalism, together with a desire to offer British equestrian talent every possible opportunity to reach the very top of competitive show jumping.
The Belgian Nations Cup will take place on Friday 1st May and results can be followed at www.lummen-horses.be.
The British Show Jumping Teams continue to be strongly supported by the UK Sport lottery funded BEF World Class programme.
