Rachel Vicary from Crediton, Devon battled against a huge forty-two horse jump off to ride away victorious in the SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at Crofton Manor Equestrian Centre in Hampshire on Friday.
Sixty-seven combinations tackled the technical course initially and they were all vying for one of the two qualification places on offer for the Championship Final which will be held at the prestigious Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead, West Sussex next summer. The strong field fought hard and an extremely competitive jump off unfolded, in which eleven double clears were secured.
Riding Marysia Orzazewska’s talented 8 year-old bay mare, Daisy Duke IV, Rachel kept her composure and used her early draw to full effect. The pair posted a scorching clear in 35.85 seconds before facing a nail biting wait as the rest of the jump off played out. Their round was to prove good enough for the top spot.
Taking the second qualification place on offer was Michael Fursedonn from Brentwood, Essex and he made a worthwhile journey with his own 5 year-old grey mare, Nirvana Vant Vossenhof Z when they rode in to second place. This partnership posted their double clear in 37.65 seconds.
