The penultimate Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier took place yesterday (Tuesday 13th August 2013) at the Pembrokeshire County Show in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Dyfed. Thirty-eight starters came forward to contest the qualifier, which was well fought.
Up for grabs at this qualifier were three direct qualifying tickets for the Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and all of the starting combinations were vying for one of these tickets. All of the combinations were hoping to produce a double clear to put them in contention for Championship Final qualification. Five combinations landed the all-important double clear and the clock proved to be critical in deciding the places.
The eventual winner of this qualifier was 43 year-old Emma Slater from Carey, Herefordshire on Art D’Usance, an 8 year-old bay gelding owned by Mark Haines. Emma rode with accuracy and speed, producing a double clear from her ride in 35.48 seconds.
Second place was taken by 28 year-old Samantha John from Llanelli, Dyfed on Quadrofoglia Z, an 8 year-old bay mare owned by Pauline John. This combination produced their double clear in a time of 37.87 seconds.
Sian Edwards, 31, from Merthyr Tydfil, Mid Glamorgan secured third place on board Lucy Loo IV, a 7 year-old grey mare owned by Philip Price. Their double clear in 37.90 seconds ensured the third and final qualifying spot.
