Para Equestrian rider fulfils life long dream
Monday 16 May 2011

Last week saw six Para Equestrian riders travel out to La Baule, France to compete in the International Show.
It was Cheshire’s Karen Law that took the top spot in the Guided Blind class. Karen partnered her own seventeen year old bay mare Glad Tidings II. In the warm up class Karen was guided by top British Rider Peter Charles. Due to other commitments Peter was unable to stay for the final so fellow Para Rider Denna Webster provided a guide for Karen. The combination showed their shear determination and finished top of the leader board, fulfilling a life long dream.
Nineteen year old Toby Bevin from Wiltshire took part in the Elite 1.20m class riding Askvan Van Overis a horse he jointly owns with Caroline Phillips. The pair jumped with ease finishing in overall second place.
Heather Bennett from North Humberside was also in the placings coming third in the 1.10m class. Heather partnered her own thirteen year old bay gelding Radezsky S.
Chief d’Equipe Anne Newbery commented; this is absolutely fantastic I am so proud of our Para Equestrian Riders; they have really shown the other Nations that we are a force to be reckoned with. As for Karen, she has put in a lot of hard work to get where she is and I am so pleased it has all paid off for her.
British Showjumping are currently working in association with Riding for the Disabled Association to increase the opportunities for British Para equestrian riders to compete in National Showjumping Para classes here in the UK.
