National Club Horse Championship

The National Club Horse Championships got underway in the historical grass arena at the NAEC in Stoneleigh Park after lunch, graced with beautiful sunshine and a well-presented show jumping course. In the 1.00m Championship, Liz Pears clinched the victory aboard 12 year old Statham Nautius. Being the only clear in the class it was a well deserved win, especially after just missing out in the 90cm Championship, being pipped from the post by Suzannah Engelmann who was riding Lissin Rocket.

Liz, who travelled to the show from Lincolnshire, said: “I really enjoyed jumping on the grass arena; it feels like you can go so much faster! I came back in to riding two years ago following a 10 year break from the sport.  I came across Statham Nautilus from a friend who was struggling a bit with him so I took him on as a project and he has really turned a corner. He is a great all rounder, we do some eventing as well as show jumping and he loves to hack out. I have really enjoyed my time here at the championships; it is such a great atmosphere here with so many finals taking place and it’s a great venue.”

Taking the spoils in both the 80cm and the 90cm championship was Suzannah Engelmann riding Lissin Rocket, members of Saffron Walden & District Riding Club. In the 70cm, Rachel Dorrell was crowned champion riding Daintydavey, with Laura Wood and Rodeo Star in second.
