Kerry Brennan Acknowledged by Worshipful Company of Saddlers at Olympia

The Worshipful Company of Saddlers is one of the ancient trade guilds (or Livery Companies) of the City of London and today, they encourage and support activities associated with the craft of Saddlery and the Saddlery Trade and Equestrianism.

With a focus on promoting participation among young riders, the Company’s overall aim is to support and encourage the manufacture and use of high-quality saddlery and tack; to encourage riders to use good British saddlery for the safety and comfort of both horse and rider and to encourage Equestrianism.

This year, the Saddlers’ Company committed to awarding a jumping saddle to the winning horse/rider (rider to be aged 25 and under) combination on the British Showjumping Gold League for results achieved between 1st April 2015 and 30th September 2015.

Kerry Brennan, aged 23, from Chesterfield, Derbyshire was presented with the saddle during Saturday (19th December) afternoon in front of the crowds at Olympia, The London International Horse Show. Kerry, partnering Wellington M, the 12 year-old bay gelding owned by Liane Smith amassed a total of 1047 points during the six month period to finish in second place overall on the league. This award capped what has already been a successful year for the pair in which they made their Senior Nations Cup Team debut at the CSIO3* FEI Furusiyya Nations Cup in Lisbon.

Kerry and Wellington M also paved their way to the Horse of the Year Show once again this year after picking up a second consecutive Gold League Wild Card. The combination also picked up wins in the International Stairway at the Royal Highland Show and at the CSI2* at Chepstow.

Talking after her presentation, a delighted Kerry said “I’m really pleased to be accepting this saddle today as it feels like a great achievement to have been recognised as the highest placed rider aged 25 and under, especially when you consider the calibre of the other young riders on that league. Wellington M and I have had a fantastic year and I’m hoping that this continues into next year.”
