Katie Shaw and Fools Business claim the British Showjumping Silver League Championship at HOYS

Stafford's Katie Shaw stayed cool under intense pressure to win the British Showjumping Silver League Championship at Horse of the Year Show in Birmingham.

Riding her sister Emma Sargeant's, 14-year-old gelding Fools Business, Shaw claimed one of British Showjumping's top amateur titles in emphatic fashion.

Last to go in the jump-off, the combination flew around a testing 1.20-metre course in 29.91 seconds, leaving closest rival Gillian Anderson, riding Congeniality B, almost four seconds behind, while Paul Bevan and Deangelo II finished third.

"It was absolutely brilliant," Shaw said. "It has made all the effort of qualifying absolutely worthwhile.

"Last year, I was really unlucky on the same horse in the same class. We had the last fence down in the jump-off with the fastest time, but still finished third.

"It is quite daunting competing in an arena like the one here. No matter how many times you do it, you still get really nervous.

"Sometimes, I prefer to go early in a jump-off. When you are last to go, there is the pressure of knowing what you have to do and sometimes you try too hard, but it paid off today."
