Karel Cox claims Welcome Stakes at Horse of the Year Show - Day 2
Thursday 06 October 2016

Karel Cox ensured success for Belgium as international classes began in the Horse of the Year Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
Karel, who was a member of the Belgian team that finished second at this year's Hickstead Nations Cup, landed the Grandstand Welcome Stakes with Caven van het Hobos, claimning a top prize of £7,350.
And the quality of his achievement was underlined by the fact that he beat renowned one round speed merchant Guy Williams, riding Titus, by almost a second, while Kerry Brennan finished third aboard Wellington M.
"It was a really fast course, and everything went well today. I am very happy," Karel said.
"There are always a lot of good riders here. The course designer makes you do the inside turns and do the lines you have to do if you want to be fast. Taking one stride more is not an option.
"It is a really competitive show. It is always top sport here, and the atmosphere is always fantastic, and it is a really good way to start the show.
"You really have to push yourself here to a high limit. You have to do that, it is not an option. I did all the inside turns and just kept going."
