John Whitaker & Cassinis Chaplin Win Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round at The Longines Royal International Horse Show

John Whitaker MBE from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire was victorious in the penultimate Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round that took place last Friday at The Longines Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead in West Sussex.

Seventy horse and rider combinations came forward with the hope of securing their place for the prestigious Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show and from the eighteen combinations that progressed into the final jump off, five achieved a treble clear.

The top spot was taken by John after he produced the fastest treble clear of the class on Cassinis Chaplin, a 7 year-old grey stallion owned by Claire Conlon and Clare Whitaker. Their time of 38.58 seconds proved to be unbeatable and it saw them hold the lead for the majority of the class.

Second place went to William Funnell from Dorking, Surrey on Denise Stamp’s 7 year-old grey gelding Billy McCain. Three immaculate rounds from this combination in 39.44 seconds saw them take that coveted second qualification place.

With the two direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final already allocated, the combinations in third to fifth took home the chance to compete in the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Masters at the British Showjumping National Championships.
