Jassy Pyke lands the Love2Swim 1m Mini Veteran Championship with Bon Amego

Day two of the Equiyd Amateur and Veteran Championship Show, held at Aintree International Equestrian Centre, saw Jassy Pyke and her reliable partner Bon Amego add another accolade to their collection, taking top honours in the Love2Swim 1m Mini Veteran Championship.

A strong field of 58 combinations came forward to tackle Mark McGowan’s flowing single-phase 1m track, which rewarded quick thinking and smooth turns. The class produced 18 double clears, with less than a second separating the top five finishers in a fiercely competitive battle for the title.

Early in the draw, Joanne Fennell and her own Bantasia set a blistering pace to take the lead on 23.60 seconds, and for much of the class it looked as though her time would hold. Tara Yate aboard Sannanvalley Stud’s Paris Lights also made an early bid for the podium, their neat and efficient round stopping the clock on 23.98 seconds to eventually secure third place.

However, as the 51st rider to go, Jassy Pyke and her 14-year-old gelding Bon Amego produced a masterful round that combined rhythm and experience to perfection, crossing the line in 23.53 seconds to snatch victory by the narrowest of margins. An established and much-admired partnership, Jassy and Bon Amego are no strangers to success at this show, having previously won the Major Veteran Championship title in 2020.
