Horseboxes Drivers Update - April 2022

We hope our those of our members who own horseboxes will find the below information shared from www.essexdriver.co.uk useful -

As you may be aware, other changes have come into force following the EU mobility package, issued in August 2020.

Vehicles weighing more than 2.5 tonne travelling to Europe for Hire and Reward are required to be on an Operator licence from 21st May 2022, this includes all 3.5 tonne horseboxes being used for Hire and Reward.  From 2026 they will be required to have tachograph fitted. If anyone requires advice regarding Operator Licence, please contact us. info@essedriver.co.uk

From 2nd February 2022, it has become mandatory for the country you are entering to be recorded on your tachograph when crossing borders. The newer smart tachographs should change automatically. Countries must be changed at the first available stop when entering a new country.

Reminder to everyone to use a tachograph in vehicles 7.5 tonne and above and keep to the rules. Anytime you need to exit from EU driving rules you should do a printout from the tacho head unit and write on the reverse the reason and keep for 28 days. Working hours should also be available to show road traffic enforcement if stopped.

Paperwork for going to Europe:  It is vital to have this correct and check the paperwork to avoid any delays at the borders. This could have consequences on you making the stopover or your destination that has been booked, seems to be a common occurrence now. You are risking working over your hours plus the horse’s welfare could suffer so build this into your plans of the stopovers. Any delay which makes you drive over your driving hours could result in a fine.
