Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre
Tuesday 01 July 2014

The fifth Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Second Round took place yesterday at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire and it was another class that proved popular with competitors, with eighty-eight starters coming forward.
Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Horse & Hound Senior Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and all of the competitors were aiming to take one of these tickets home.
After two well fought rounds of competition, nine combinations achieved the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off. In that jump off, three combinations then went on to secure a treble clear, which resulted in the clock becoming crucial in deciding the order of results.
The fastest treble clear came from 25 year-old Holly Gillott from Loughborough, Leicestershire and she partnered Gems McCormicks’ 9 year-old chestnut gelding A Brightwood Ursa Major. Holly led the jump off from the very start after securing that treble clear in just 36.44 seconds. This time was to prove unbeatable, giving Holly and A Brightwood Ursa Major their qualification place for the Championship.
A clearly pleased Holly said the following of her victory “I was surprised to win but I knew that the horse had the experience to do well. I am really pleased with his performance, he jumped three amazing rounds and the course was a testing one.”
Second place went to 55 year-old Mark Williams from Rutland, Leicestershire on his own 9 year-old bay mare, Pronto Van Overis Z. This combination secured their treble clear in 37.64 seconds.
The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
