Thursday 01 September 2011

Two of British Showjumping’s longest serving officials were awarded with Honorary Life Memberships of the Association during the Association’s Annual General Meeting at Staffordshire Country Showground. Michael Mac, Chairman of the Association presented John Wilde with his award in front of a wide audience of members, Board members and officials. Regrettably, John Jacks was unable to attend, however, a presentation will be made to John in the very near future.
JOHN JACKS
John has been involved with horses all of his life. A long standing Median Course Designer and Two Star Judge. He has also been a long standing member of British Showjumping Volunteer Network, being Area Representative for Norfolk while still working as Operations Manager for Air UK and was Regional Representative for Region Central East for 12 years. John also had a stint as Chairman of British Showjumping. As an ‘Intermediate Instructor’ he has taught numerous riders of all standards for many years and has encouraged many of his Pony Club and Riding Club pupils to join British Showjumping, and indeed his daughter competed for many years as do his two grandsons.
John has given many years of commitment and expertise to the Sport in so many different facets and he is a worthy recipient of an Honorary Life Membership of British Showjumping.
JOHN WILDE
John was brought up around horses all his life, initially as part of the family business. He met his wife, Sue in the 1960’s and he travelled supporting Sue at many shows both nationally and internationally often driving horses at all sorts of times to fit in work as well during the day.
Whilst Sue was competing John would regularly help out at shows especially Wales and West doing everything from driving tractors to helping in the office and judging. John was a major part of the organizing team for the Amberley Horse Show in Gloucestershire as well as running the West Midlands Showjumping Festival. John was persuaded to take on the role of Area Representative for Staffordshire and it was whilst he was Area Representative that he also joined the judging panel.
