Holly Johnstone dominates the podium in the NAF Five Star Winter Bronze League Championship

Holly Johnstone from Newcastle dominated the NAF Five Star Winter Bronze League Championship by taking not only the top spot but also third place. The Championship, which ran as part of the NAF Five Star British Showjumping National Championships at Bolesworth, came down to the wire as Holly capitalised on being the last competitor to go in a four way jump off.

Anna de Verteuil set a competitive jump off up when she jumped clear on her own 19 year-old bay mare Bonita in a time of 39.31 seconds. Holly then came into the arena on the first of her two rides, Gogobantos, a 9 year-old bay gelding and mounted a strong challenge when jumping a double clear in 39.82 seconds.

Following Holly was Bryony Moss on her 16 year-old bay mare Summerhouse Zidonja and after they had an unfortunate pole down, the pressure was on Holly to deliver an even quicker double clear on her second ride.

Holly took the Championship title on her own 8 year-old bay gelding Carquois du Ceve. His huge stride ate up the ground in the jump off and they delivered a double clear in 37.01 seconds to take victory.

A clearly delighted Holly said “I’ve owned both horses for two years now and they are very much members of the family and we are really grateful to have them. I enjoy competing them and to have them both pull it out of the bag to get first and third is absolutely brilliant, I am very very happy.

“My first horse in the jump off [Gogobantos] is better when there are longer runs between fences but I benefitted from riding him first as I could get a feel for where the tighter turns were for Carquois de Ceve who is naturally quicker. When I jumped the orange fence clear on an angle, I knew I was on for making the time and I was delighted when I saw the clock. My partner was on hand to help me today and he is the polo man, both horses looked for him after their rounds!”
