Harry Wood and Johidoki win the SEIB Winter Novice Championship

Seventeen year-old Harry Wood from Stockton-On-Tees, Cleveland got his Saturday off to a fantastic start when he won the SEIB Winter Novice Championship at the NAF Five Star British Showjumping National Championships at Bolesworth.

On board Johidoki, a 6 year-old bay gelding owned by Victoria Wood, Harry went on to produce the only double clear of the Championship from first draw in the jump off. In the four horse jump off, Harry and Johidoki set the standard with their double clear in a time of 39.65 seconds and this result was to prove unbeatable. Harry kept the talented gelding in a consistent rhythm whilst making the most of the shortcuts available.

John Crippen was the only rider able to beat Harry on time when he stopped the clock on 37.89 seconds on Juluis, a 6 year-old bay gelding owned by Chloe Templeton, but a pole down saw them relegated into second place. Third place went to Kiarra Hulme on Z Stef VD K, a 6 year-old bay gelding owned by Andrew Hulme and they finished with four faults in 40.49 seconds.

Harry has had Johidoki since March last year and has been building on the gelding’s performances since coming third in the National 5 Year Old Championship last August. Talking after his win, Harry said “I call him [Johidoki] Mr Reliable, if I’m ever having a bad day, he’s the horse I can rely on and it was great to get the win this morning.

“In the jump off today, I knew that the other three riders would be fast, so a clear round would be needed. I used his naturally big stride to keep him smooth and tight and I knew that if I rode forward to the double, I could then take a stride out to the last and he was great. I’m looking forward to competing him in the Prestige Italia Big Star Championship later on this afternoon and I'm hopeful that he's got a great future ahead of him.”

The NAF Five Star British Showjumping Championships take place between the 3 – 11 August 2020 and further information on the show can be found here  https://bit.ly/3a4cy2Q  and results from all classes here https://bit.ly/2Xzma0M.
