Harrogate-based Christina Cotton claimed a thrilling victory in the CT Equine Collection 138cm Championship at the Horse of the Year Show, producing a flawless performance aboard her talented pony Mayfly Black Pennel.
Out of an original field of 24 starters, eight combinations returned for what proved to be an exhilarating jump-off. The class came down to fractions of a second, with the top three finishers separated by just 0.54 seconds, a testament to the quality and competitiveness of this year’s line-up.
As the penultimate rider into the ring, Christina, who finished runner-up in this same class in 2024, drew on all her experience and composure to produce a foot-perfect round in a blistering time, edging Tabby Morgan-Evans and Churchfield Tulla Bluebell into second place. Lucia Caroline took a well-earned third aboard Houla Oups Ed’s, rounding out a high-calibre podium
“I knew it would be really competitive in the jump-off, so I just went for it, especially to the last. It was about staying calm, I knew he could jump it and he’s very quick” said Christina.
“He’s called Charlie in the stable he has such a sweet personality which you wouldn’t think because he’s such a cracking jumping pony.
“The atmosphere here is amazing,” added Christina. “There are not that many shows like it. It is a really special event as it is my last year on 138cm ponies, so it was incredible to get the win. I am so proud of what we have achieved today, and I hope we can come again”
