Great Britain Youth Teams are on top form at the Nations Cup of Zuidwolde

Great Britain’s Junior team claimed first place on Friday in the Junior Nations Cup of Zuidwolde at the Youth Meeting in De Wolden, The Netherlands, as the only team to finish on a zero score.

A strong contingent of 16 teams came forward over a the 1.40m track, with two teams emerging at the top of the leaderboard at the halfway stage – Great Britian alongside Sweeden.  A further four teams were tied in third place on four faults – it was tight at the top and all to play for.

Ruby Barrs took on the challenge of pathfinder with gusto and rode Manzana de Rigo to a superb double clear. Eve Mccoy then followed this up with another foot-perfect double clear with Hucalinde D.V to keep Great Britain in the hunt.

Madison Seedhouse jumped an all important clear in round one aboard Emara Giguellerie Z to keep Great Britain on zero but came home with an unfortunate 12 faults in round two which became the drop score.

A podium place rested on anchor rider, Noora Von Bülow’s shoulders. Putting round one’s retirement behind her, Noora and Interstar B pulled it out of the bag with a perfectly executed second round clear to once again keep Great Britian on a zero score and secure the win.

Sweeden held onto second place with just four faults, and Ireland rounded out the podium in third place on eight faults.

Great Britain seized second place in Thursday's Pony Nations Cup at the Zuidwolde Youth Meeting at De Wolden, The Netherlands.

Seven teams came forward with Great British going up against some strong competition to compete for a place on the podium. Pathfinder Sophia Rogers led the team out over the 1.30m course and boosted the chances of the young British team, giving them a great start with a clear round on the 13-year-old Neil 55.

Ella Spencer and the nine-year-old stallion Gilton Des Islots just tapped out a pole and came home with one time fault, for five total whilst Maisie Allsop returned an uncharacteristic 20 faults for the discard score with the 16-year-old Vaughann De Vuzit

It was down to the anchor rider and Hollie Gerken, on the 13-year-old mare Galaxy V, rode a confident round to storm home with another all-important round one clear.

It was all still to play for at the halfway point, and the team rallied in round two, fighting together to produce a zero score second time out and hold onto their second place. Ireland proved unbeatable on the day as the only team to return on zero securing first place with Germany finishing on a score of eight faults in third place.

On Friday, nine teams came forward to contend for this hotly contested 1.45m team competition at the Zuidwolde Youth Meeting in De Wolden, The Netherlands, with Great Britain drawn first to go.

Pathfinder Sophie Evans got the ball rolling for Great Britain with a foot perfect clear round on Deuxcatsix D'Eglefin which was shortly followed up by Olivia Sponer and Kockie W who also produced a well ridden clear to keep Britian in the hunt.

Iwan Carpenter, riding Merllyn’s Chocca Nova, and Charlie Atkinson, riding Be Qvikly Star, were both unfortunate to each see a fence hit the sand in round one, leaving Britain on a team score of four.

Lying third at the halfway point with the Netherlands and Germany on zero and Denmark just behind in fourth on eight faults, it would be all to play for to secure a place on the podium.

Sophie started strong once again as the pathfinder and piloted her 12-year-old stallion to another vital clear round. Olivia just tapped out a pole on the up-to-height oxer, three fences from home for four faults.

Iwan put his first round faults behind him and steered his long-term partner around for an important clear round. Charlie finished round two with another four-fault round, just dislodging a pole in the first part of the double.

As both Germany and Great Britain finished on eight faults, the podium placings would be decided on time; Germany just clinching second place by 2.39 seconds and Great Britain came home with a well-deserved third place.
