EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre
Tuesday 01 July 2014

Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire held a hugely popular EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Second Round on Saturday 28th June 2014. The class was well contested with one hundred and forty-four combinations turning out to compete.
Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the EquestrianClearance.com Senior Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show and each competitor was hoping to take one of these tickets as their own.
From the one hundred and forty-four starters, just eighteen combinations went on to produce the two clear rounds needed to make it through into the final jump off. In the jump off itself, five combinations went on to secure a third clear, which meant that the time became a crucial factor in deciding the order of results and the allocation of the qualification places.
The win came from the combination that was drawn ninth to go in the jump off. Having already seen four treble clears produced before him, Iain Cart, 45, from Welford, Northamptonshire knew that he also needed to achieve that third immaculate round and he needed to do it in a quick time. On board his own 8 year-old bay stallion Ablesco, Iain was to become the only rider to deliver that third clear in under 44.00 seconds and he took victory after stopping the clock on 43.67 seconds.
Iain was delighted with his win and had the following to say “With the class being as big as it was I was really surprised to win. We bred Ablesco and I am really pleased with his performance; we have slowly brought him back into work after he had lifesaving surgery two years ago and I am really looking forward to the future with this talented horse.”
Second place was taken by 20 year-old Alfie Bradstock from Wantage, Oxon on Graham Fletcher’s 7 year-old bay gelding Bruce Almighty VI. This combination secured their treble clear in a time of 44.02 seconds.
The first two horse and rider combinations, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Horse of the Year Show. The first five, disregarding those already qualified, will qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival. Horses and riders that jump a treble clear also qualify for the Alexanders Horseboxes British Showjumping Scope Festival.
