England takes the 128cm Home Pony International Title

Wednesday 18 August 2010

The Scottish Home Pony International (HPI) took place last week up in Ayrshire at the Rowallan Activity Centre. Ponies from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland travelled to Lord Rowallan’s Show Centre to compete against each other for the 128cm, 138cm and the 148cm HPI titles.

The English 128cm Team set the standard high by each member of the team jumping clear to finish in pole position on a score of 0. First to jump for England was 11 year old Emily Ward from Cheshire riding her fathers (Nick) 15 year old dun gelding Rockingham Shadow. The pair jumped an immaculate double clear. Next to go for England was 11 year old Olivia Poole from Shropshire riding her mothers (Michelle) 20 year old grey mare Justalk Atlanta. This combination mirrored Emily’s performance by also jumping a double clear. Third to represent England was 12 year old Zoe Smith from Buckinghamshire riding her fathers (Peter) 14 year old bay mare Night Star II. This partnership also produced a double clear meaning that England had won the competition on only 3 scores allowing Jessica Hewitt on Pendini no need to jump.

Ireland showed what young talent they have coming through by taking both the 138cm and 148cm HPI titles. The 138cm team jumped 2 fantastic rounds with 3 out of the 4 riders jumping foot perfect double clears meaning they finished on a total score of 0 to take the title. The team consisted of Nathan Evans riding Ballindooley Queen, Francie Fahy riding Mr Rock & Role, Lucy Allen riding Lough Gill and Tom Foley riding Tyson.

Irelands 148cm also jumped 2 fantastic rounds with 3 of the riders jumping clear in the second round meaning the fourth rider had no need to jump. The Irish 148cm team members were Shannon Mckenzie riding Dollar Girl, Cali O’Donnell riding Ard Fry Selimoor, Kelly Taggart riding Hopola and Tom Foley riding Crown Jewel.
