Competitors in the Animo UK Children on Horses Championship proved they are a forced to be reckoned with today in the Grand Ring at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show.
The first combination to enter the arena was 16 year- old Olivia Poole from Shrewsbury, Shropshire riding Michelle Poole’s 8 year-old bright bay mare Chinook BH, who laid down an early challenge with a time of 43.17 seconds. It seemed that, despite brave and bold attempts, her fellow competitors were unable to catch her seeing Olivia secure first place.
Impressively Olivia was not content with one stellar round but challenged her own leading score with her second ride of the class the 11 year-old chestnut mare Zoverla also owned by her mother Michelle . The second ride for Olivia delivered a time of 44.51 seconds securing her second place.
Third place was awarded to Joshua Bridge (16) from Pontyclun, Mid Glamorgan riding his mother Kelly’s 9 year-old bay gelding Burello W, who conducted a careful and impressive round. Joshua looked composed and completed a solid clear round bringing him in 2 seconds behind second place.
Olivia was thrilled with her first and second result: “it’s absolutely amazing, both horses jumped amazingly… [Chinook BH] jumped her heart out in that jump off she really tried and to be fair she did a really nice round”.
Olivia explained why winning this class meant so much to her: “I have been waiting for this class, I was 4th last year, I’ve come 2nd by 7 hundredths of a second and I am so glad that I’ve finally done it”.
The Animo UK National Children on Horses Championship was an impressive way to end the second day of competition in the Grand Ring at the British Showjumping National Championships and Stoneleigh Horse Show.
