Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm and 1.00m National Amateur Second Rounds at Houghton Hall Equestrian Centre

Competitors got the chance to enjoy a Dodson & Horrell National Amateur 0.90cm Second Round and a 1.00m Second Round on Saturday 26th October 2013 at Houghton Hall Equestrian Centre in Houghton, Cambridgeshire.
Both of the second rounds were well contested and all of the starters were hoping to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

Twenty-two combinations started out in this 0.90cm second round and impressive total of seventeen combinations went on to contest the jump off. With thirteen double clears subsequently being produced, deciding the order of results was left down to the clock.
The top spot in this second round was taken by 37 year-old Veronique Mossaz from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. Veronique took victory on her own 11 year-old bay mare, Glitter Bay II after producing a double clear in 30.74 seconds.
Second place went to 33 year-old Gemma Dickens from Loughborough, Leicestershire on Oakley’s Ace, a 22 year-old bay gelding owned by Lesley Dickens. Gemma and Oakleys Ace also secured a double clear, delivering it in a time of 31.06 seconds.
Charlotte Peasley (16) from Norfolk took third place on Rathdowney Guy, an 11 year-old bay gelding owned by Susan Peasley. They secured their place in the top three by producing a double clear in 32.89 seconds.
Nine more riders also went on to secure their qualification place for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Second Round.
This 1.00m National Amateur Second Round was contested by twenty-eight starting combinations, thirteen of whom went on to contest the jump off. Six double clears were then produced and the clock proved to be pivotal once again in deciding the order.
Megan Bristow (15) from Epping, Essex won this second round on board Cappuccino V, an 11 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Terry Wilkins. Megan and Cappuccino V were drawn to go towards the end of the jump off and they produced an superb double clear in 27.93 seconds to finish up on top.
Second place was taken by 25 year-old Luke Humphrey from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, who rode his own 14 year-old dark bay mare, Soraja. Luke also produced a double clear, delivering his in 28.24 seconds.
Following on from the 0.90cms second round that was held earlier on in the day, Gemma Dickens was also contesting in this 1.00m second round, again on Oakley’s Ace. The combination took third this time around, but they produced another solid double clear, securing it in 29.07 seconds. Gemma and Oakley’s Ace are the current defending Dodson & Horrell 1.00m National Amateur Champions and they be heading to the final once again.
Ten further riders also went on to achieve their qualification place for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final.
