Tuesday 20 October 2015
With the end of the qualification period drawing ever closer, a number of determined competitors came forward on Sunday for the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m and 0.95m National Amateur Second Rounds at Ellands Farm in Forres, Morayshire.
Each and every competitor was focused on qualifying for next month’s Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool (18th-22nd November). Three qualified through from the 0.85m second round, whilst four went through from the 0.95m second round.

Fifteen year-old Lucy O’Neill from Newmacher, Aberdeenshire took a convincing win in this second round on board Diamond Chip III, an 8 year-old brown mare owned by Wendy O’Neill. Lucy and Diamond Chip produced the second double of the class and did so in a time of 39.02 seconds. This result saw the pair finish 9.89 seconds ahead of the combination in second place.
Caroline Caldwell from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire finished up in second on her own 10 year-old bay gelding Morning Flight after they delivered the only other double clear of the class in 48.91 seconds.
Third place was taken by Lesley Ross from Aberdeenshire. Lesley rode her own 8 year-old chestnut gelding Everlong and they were the only other combination able to produce the first round clear needed for a place in the jump off. Lesley decided to retire in the jump off, but the clear from the first round ensured a top three placing.
