Wednesday 28 October 2015

Sixty contenders came forward for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Brook Farm Training Centre in Romford, Essex on Sunday and competitors got the opportunity to compete over 0.85m, 1.05m and 1.10m.

Each combination started out with the aim of picking up a qualification ticket for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships which will run next month at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool (18th – 22nd November).

Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round

Nineteen combinations competed in this second round, but just five made it through into the jump off after first having to contend with a tough initial round in which faults were accrued all over the course. Just two of the starters were able to produce double clears.

Seventeen year-old Sophia Fox from Greenfield, Bedfordshire led the jump off from the very top with her own 9 year-old black mare Roxborough Black Rain. The combination set the standard for the jump off after they delivered their double clear in 35.43 seconds, a result which eventually saw them take a clear win.

Laney Pullen from Walton-On-Thames, Surrey finished in second with the only other double clear. Laney produced this double clear on board her own 16 year-old chestnut gelding Reval and she opted for a clean and steady round to cross through the finish with the all fences still standing in 44.95 seconds.

Marian Gore from Uxbridge, Middlesex picked up third place after collecting an unfortunate four faults at the very last fence on her own 17 year-old chestnut gelding Carbon Copy V. Their time of 34.18 seconds ensured them of a podium finish.
