Derek Morton is victorious in the Winter Grand Prix at SouthView Competition and Training Centre
Monday 24 February 2020
SouthView Competition and Training Centre in Cheshire held the final Winter Classic Show of the season over the weekend and riders flocked from all ends of the country to the popular venue. Thirty-eight riders took on the challenging 1.40m course set by Gillian Milner but it was Derek Moreton from Stone, Staffordshire who emerged victorious.
The starting field was whittled down to eight combinations for the jump-off with only two going on to produce a double clear. Derek used his experience to guide Science Supplements KBS High Quality, a 9 year-old owned by Zoe Snedker, to a quick clear in 42.47 seconds. Just 2.33 seconds behind Derek was runner up Donatas Janciauskas. The Bolton based rider was partnered by his own 8 year-old Cool Quartz. Mark Turnbull piloted Mary Turnbull’s Ashton Dakota into third place. They were on track to take the win but a pole down proved costly.
