Claudia Moore to represent Great Britain at the Youth Equestrian Games in Aachen

British Showjumping are pleased to announce the selection of seventeen-year-old Claudia Moore, from Brentwood in Essex, to represent Great Britain at the Youth Equestrian Games 2022 (YEG) in Aachen (GER), which takes place between 23rd June and 3rd July. The competition has been created as a replacement for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG), which was set to take place this year in Dakar (SEN) but has been postponed until 2026. The competition will run in the same format as YOG.

Young riders aged 15-18 years old, from thirty nations across six continents are invited to participate in the event. A list of qualified nations can be found here. Great Britain qualified as a result of the Junior team’s bronze medal won at the 2021 Youth Europeans in Vilamoura (POR).

In order to compete, the combinations have had to fulfil the Youth Equestrian Games qualification criteria. Athletes are required to complete two rounds of competition over the same pre-determined course, with identical distance and height specifications

The riders will compete on borrowed horses, which will be supplied by the organizing committee and randomly allocated to the riders. The horses and riders will have three days prior to the event to train and form a strong partnership with their assigned horse in preparation for the start of the competition on Wednesday 29th June through to Sunday 3rd July. The team competitions will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and the individual competition will take place on Saturday.

Claudia will form part of the Europe continental group in a team alongside riders from Germany, Belgium, France and Greece. The team competition will be run over two rounds of a 1.30m course (one round per day), where the best three scores from the five riders will count towards final team classification. In the event of a tie of points, a jump off round will be held for which one rider from each team will go head-to-head against the clock over a shortened course. Following completion of the team competition on day two, team medals will be awarded. The individual competition will be held in the Main Stadium on Saturday where the individual Youth Equestrian Games winner will be crowned. This will be held over one round of a 1.30m course not against the clock with a jump off against the clock in case of equality of penalties after round one.

Claudia Moore has been on numerous Nations Cup and European teams in Ponies and Juniors. In 2018, she won individual bronze and team gold at the Pony Europeans, followed by team silver in 2019 and Junior team bronze in 2021. In 2019, Claudia took individual second place in the CSIOP Grand Prix and a team win in the CSIOP Nations Cup Final in Opglabbeek. In Kronenberg last year, she took fourth place in the Grand Prix in the CSIOJ Nations Cup Final. More recently Claudia took a second place in the 1.40m Grand Prix at the CSIOJ Youth Nations Cup show in Fontainebleau last month. Nationally, Claudia has numerous placings at 1.40m.
