Claire Lewis is Victorious in the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round at Parley Equestrian Centre

A proud Claire Lewis from Hythe, Southampton showed off her first place rosette on Saturday after securing victory in the Dodson & Horrell 0.85m National Amateur Second Round at Parley Equestrian Centre in Christchurch, Dorset.
A keen and focused field of riders and horses had all eyes on the twelve qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which will be held at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool between the 16th – 20th November. Only five combinations were able to pull off a clear in the first round, so the jump off was left to decide the all-important placings.
Riding her own 13 year-old bay gelding Perriland Leonardo, Claire showed her prowess as she clinched the top spot from first draw. Leaving all the fences standing, this partnership racked up a double clear to cross the finish line in an unbeatable 35.40 seconds.
Second place was scooped up by Francesca House from Bournemouth, Dorest on board her own 14 year-old chestnut mare, Miss Darcy IV. Although this pair were not the fastest combination in the jump off, they proved that speed is not always the key as they delivered the only other double clear in a time of 47.17 seconds.
Sue Woodbury from Dorchester, Dorset took third place with her speedy round on Mumbo Jumbo II, a 18 year-old bay gelding. They had a fence in the early part of the course which left them on 4 faults in 36.71 seconds.
