Chloe Gunning Wins the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round in Fine Style at Arena UK

Sixteen year-old Chloe Gunning from Stevenage, Hertfordshire will make her Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) debut at Birmingham’s NEC in October after winning the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round in fine style on Leanne Brown’s Katies Grey.

Forty-eight competitors vied for the three HOYS tickets on offer but only seven provided first round clears and these further reduced to just three for the final jump-off to fill the three qualifying places.

It was all down to the clock to decide the result, and Chloe’s final round on the Irish-bred nine-year-old mare Katies Grey posted victory by 2.75 seconds.  The win bodes well for the consistent pair, who contend the winter JC final at the Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead, next Wednesday, 27 July.

Sixteen year-old Serena Kullich from Hindhead, Surrey provided the only other treble clear for second on Kilcurry Dawn, an eight-year-old stallion by Westside Mirah and out of an Aran Flight mare and owned by Rebecca Kullich.

Thirteen year-old Ffion Roberts from Holywell, Flintshire picked up the third qualifying spot on Kantjes Bozzy, a 10-year-old gelding who missed out on qualification by one place at Weston Lawns.  The consistent pair are also pony Discovery finalists at the National Championships, Stoneleigh, after winning at Tushingham Arena.

Taking Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters places and another qualifying chance at the British Showjumping National Championships in August are: fourth-placed Molly Bennett on Mr Bojangles III and Lauren Roach, in fifth aboard Westcoast Express.
