Brits Abroad, Stuttgart CSI 5*, CSI 3* Rouen & Opglabbeek Youth Int’l

Placings for British riders finishing within the top six in CSI 3*or above world ranking classes over the weekend were as follows. Youth riders competing on the international stage and placed in their respective Grand Prix competitions are also listed below.
Stuttgart CSI 5*
John Whitaker with his own and wife Clare’s 14 year-old bay stallion, Argento, won the opening 1.45m class on Thursday at the CSI 5* show in Stuttgart, Germany. Stopping the clock on zero penalties in a time of 58.52 seconds he relegated home rider Felix Hassman with SL Brazonado into 2nd place. Saturday evening saw John finish 5th with the 12 year-old bay gelding Lord of Arabia having achieved maximum points along with six others albeit in a slightly slower time than Charlotte Bettendorf from Luxembourg with Safir III who took 1st place.
Scott Brash took 6th place with Hello Ursula, owned by Lady Kirkham and Lady Harris, in the 1.50m speed class on Friday with their clear in a time of 66.36 seconds. It was a total of 22 riders that jumped clear with Roger Yves-Bost for France and Pegase du Murier.
The World Cup qualifier which ran this afternoon saw 19 go clear, however for John and Scott things didn’t quite go as well as they would have hoped with John retiring Ornellaia the 11 year-old bay mare owned by Team Harmony and Scott finishing on 16 penalties with Hello Ursula.

CSI 3* Rouen
Guy Williams with the 14 year-old Casper de Muze finished 3rd in the opening Int’l speed class at Rouen on Thursday before they both went on to win the opening 1.40m Speed on the Friday. Friday evening saw him secure yet another win Titus whom he jointly owns with Charlotte Baines. One of fourteen double clears they stopped the clock in 35.29 seconds, the only combination to break the 36 second barrier.
The Accumulator on Saturday saw Jemma Kirk with Tchoupi Pironniere take 3rd place and Robert Smith with Ilton finish in 5th. With more than thirty combinations finishing on the maximum 65 points time was crucial for all which saw less three seconds deciding the top 9 placings.
Rob Bevis won the 1.50m class on Saturday with his clear in a time of 61.37 aboard Courtney Z with Nicole Pavitt and Areeb OL also having jumped clear finished 6th. James Smith and Tyson Uno finished joint 2nd in the Puisance having faulted in the fifth and final round.

International Pony, Children, Junior & Young Riders abroad
Opglabbeek, Belgium
Jodie Hall McAteer took 2nd place in the Pony Grand Prix in this, her final year on ponies, with the tremendous 18 year-old chestnut mare Tixylix. Jumping double clear her time of 31.12 seconds just wasn’t enough to catch Adam Carey from Ireland with Stakkati who finished in 29.86 seconds.
Oliver Fletcher aged 13 years with his father Graham’s 10 year-old mare Little Business won the Children’s 1.25m Grand Prix at Sentower Park, Opglabbeek in Belgium. Their double clear in a time of 33.28 seconds saw them stop the clock a fraction of a second faster than the rest of the field to clinch the win. Eleanor Hall-McAteer took 4th place with the 15 year-old grey mare Dazzle.
The 1.40m Junior Grand Prix saw another British win, this time in the form of 15 year-old Jack Whitaker with his father Michael’s 11 year-old bay gelding Stakkato de Fee. One of seven double clears, their time of 30.75 seconds was enough to keep the relegate the rest of the combinations with none of them managing to finish under the 31 second barrier.
