Britain remain in the running after Aachen

Great Britain took part in the sixth leg of the Meydan FEI Nations Cup yesterday in Aachen, Germany which is renowned for it’s challenging courses.

This year was definitely no exception with course designer Frank Rothenberger building a course which lived up to Aachen’s reputation with the course not only being a technical one but the majority of fences standing at a full 1.60m.

Pathfinder Peter Charles put up a good fight with only lowering one pole in both rounds with the eleven year old gelding Murka’s Pom d’Ami who is jointly owned by Olga White and Team Murka Ltd

Next to jump for Great Britain was David McPherson riding his 9 year old gelding Chamberlain Z who made his debut in Top Level Nations Cup earlier on in the year. David and Chamberlain Z jumped a fantastic first round, but had an unfortunate second round.

24 year old Scott Brash and Intertoy Z were the next combination to fly the flag for Great Britain. The pair didn’t get off to the best of starts however they dug deep for the second round and only lowered one fence.

Anchorman John Whitaker and the incredible Peppermill showed what a class act they are jumping a foot perfect clear in the first round but unfortunately they were just outside the time incurring a time fault.

Despite finishing 8th in the competition, Britain are still lying in a comfortable position on the Meydan FEI Nations Cup leaderboard with only 2 competitions left to go.

Commenting from Aachen, World Class Showjumping Performance Manager Rob Hoekstra “We are naturally disappointed with the result from Aachen, however we are also aware that we are still in a favorable position on the Leaderboard. Our strategy has always been to finish in the top six overall after Dublin and we will fight to the end to ensure that we are. If we achieve that, then I will be highly delighted when you consider the small pool of horses we are operating with compared to other nations”.
