Breeding excellence with Corlato and Quirifino Quainton

Showjumping fans will be delighted to hear that Tim Stockdale’s Olympic showjumping mare, Corlato has just passed her 28 day pregnancy scan and is carrying a foal sired by Quainton Quirifino, owned by Quainton Stud.

Corlato was inseminated by Quirifino in August and fell pregnant after the first attempt. Mr John Bosher enthused: "We are very excited to have Ruby (Corlato) in foal to Quirifino. We are so grateful to Quainton Stud for doing such a great job, they have been very professional to deal with and the whole experience has been lovely. Quainton Stud is set in superb surroundings and it is a pleasure to be associated with Quainton Stud and their team.“

Emma Phillips, Quainton Stud and Quainton Quirifino’s owner explained: “We were thrilled when John rang to ask about using Quirifino, John said he knew the stallion well and had seen him jumping with Ben Maher. He was impressed by Quirifino’s big bold, scopey jump and calm disposition. John thought the two horses would really compliment each other. I had seen Corlato jump with Tim Stockdale at the Olympics and European Championships and knew what an amazing mare she is, in my opinion this is the highest compliment and endorsement of our stud and stallions we could have received.”

Corlato unexpectedly required fresh semen at a time Quirifino was away competing in Holland. Corlato had to be inseminated within 24 hours otherwise she would have missed her chance to conceive in that cycle. For a while it didn’t seem possible as Quirifino was at an FEI 5* competition where horses are not permitted to leave the show ground.  After some frantic calls, Quainton Stud finally managed to locate a driver that could collect Quirifino and drive him through the night back to the stud just in the nick of time to perform his stud duties.
