Beth qualifies for the KBIS British Novice Championship
Monday 06 June 2011

Last weekend saw Bold Heath Equestrian Centre in Cheshire play host to the KBIS British Novice second round, which held two qualifying tickets for the final at the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival.
The class saw forty three starters take on the course designed by Philip Gardner. Twenty six riders managed to jump a first round clear and a further fourteen jumped another clear moving them into the third and final round. However this proved too much for some riders as only two riders, Beth Austin and Sarah Clifford managed to jump another clear to finish on a score of zero.
It was fourteen year old Beth Austin from Crew in Cheshire who took the top spot along with the first of the qualifying tickets for the Championship. Beth partnered Terri Harrop’s seven year old black mare, Zeester who jumped three foot perfect rounds in a jump off time of 40.77 seconds, five seconds faster than second placed Sarah Clifford.
Sarah rode her own six year old black gelding, Afram B. As the pair were drawn nearly last to go in the jump off, Sarah new that Beth was the only clear so far, so she opted to go for the safe foot perfect clear and finished on a jump off time of 45.00 seconds taking the last qualifying ticket for the Championship.
