Arena UK Large Pony Premier - Round Up

Monday 27 February 2017

Madison Jamison enjoyed a bumper show at Arena UK’s 148cm Pony Premier, winning a Charles Britton Winter JA Classic Qualifier and a Hickstead Winter JC Qualifier.

Twenty-five combinations faced a tough twelve-fence track designed by Neil Foster on Sunday, and only four produced first round clears – two belonging to Sophie Bowen-Howard.  However, only one was penalty-free in the jump-off, Madison on Bodyssee Des Avelines proving foot-perfect.

“She gives me so much confidence,” said Madison, who got this 10-year-old mare as a joint Christmas and birthday present in December.

Last-to-go Fraser Reed claimed second place on the 14-year-old gelding Kilcloghan DG Clover and Sophie Bowen Howard had to settle for third and fourth on Quincy V and Stars Surprise.

Madison swept into an unbeatable lead in Saturday’s Winter JC Qualifier with the 8-year-old, Sweepstake, to take a commanding victory.

The sixty-three starters were initially reduced to fifteen for round two, and a further five were lost to provide ten for a tense jump-off.  But Madison dismissed any pressure to forge ahead on Sweepstake – no stranger to Hickstead after jumping in the JC final last year – to win by more than four seconds.

“I came inside to the double,” said Madison, 16, on her winning turn.

Scotland’s Shaunie Greig guided new ride JJ Lucky Star, an Irish 10-year-old, into second with Daisy McKinlay picking up third on the 10-year-old appaloosa mare Spot The Go Jo.  Meg Acomb jumped into fourth on the Irish 11-year-old Cartron Tom.

Megan Taylor used her opening draw to set a sizzling, unbeatable target to take Saturday’s Charles Britton Winter JA classic Qualifier on Quantum Light.

The thirty-three starters were whittled down to six, and Megan immediately took charge, negotiating every turn option on the Irish 18-year-old gelding Quantum Light.

Oliver Fletcher could only come within 2.09 seconds to take second place with the Matchello K 9-year-old The Bobster, a HOYS Foxhunter finalist in 2016.  Fraser Reed claimed third on Quilitymaes Z and Courtney Young, tackling her first Charles Britton Winter JA Classic Qualifier, rode into fourth spot on Fostymana VH Trichlehof.

Cleo Loizzo posted victory in Sunday’s winter JC on Charlie McDonald’s Banner Girl, an Irish 10-year-old she has produced through the grades from British Novice.

From a field of fifty-seven, eighteen produced first round clears with just five reaching the final jump-off. With a mid-drawn Chloe, 13, was accurate and quick to slot this mare into the top spot by 0.29 seconds.

Bowen McCrory’s opening round on the 10-year-old mare Tip Top Sand earned the second qualifying place with Alice Weightman taking third on the 10-year-old Cindy VI.

Jodie Burchmore Eames landed the British Showjumping 148cm special with the consistent 11-year-old Ron Burgundy, taking the win by a 0.37 sec.  Sandy McLean jumped Red Flamenco into second with Hannah Barker and Ammanvalley Santino in third.

Flo Norris – also winner of Sunday’s Grade JC and JA Handicap – JC Section – made her late round count in the Blue Chip Pro Sparkle JC/JA Championship Qualifier, pushing the Quick Star 16-year-old Nils D Hurl Vent into the top spot by 1.95 seconds.  Sarah Mackmin rode the 12-year-old Hot Shot Bacardi into second with Isobel Ryder claiming third on Woodfield Five Star.

Ellie Sedgwick claimed the concluding HorseQuest UK coral to take the top Blue Chip Championships finalist place on Buzz Lightyear.

Sinead Cox edged into second on Lislaw Cruising Lady with Alexandra Wilson taking third aboard Nansus Sequin and Sandy McLean in fourth aboard Kippure Lancelot.
