Applications now open for the British Showjumping Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE)

Since its launch in 2013, the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) has been hugely successful in developing and preparing talented young athletes (age 16-19) who have a real chance of excelling in their sport and competing on the international stage. Many previous students have gone on to compete for their country at international level including the Nations Cup.
This Level 3 programme offers selected talented riders the chance to improve their skills whilst learning how to manage all aspects of life as a professional in showjumping. Riders will have the chance to continue their education in a relevant and inspiring environment, and benefit from training with showjumping’s top coaches.
The programme is delivered over six two day camps throughout the year. During this the students are working towards a nationally recognised qualification; Level 3 Certificates in Achieving Excellence in and Understanding Sports Performance. AASE covers essential units that aim to support the elite athlete in their career including: Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental, Career and Communications.
Applications for the 2015/16 cohort are now open and available to download from the Haddon Training website. The deadline for applications will be Friday 31st July 2015.
Who is eligible?
- The AASE programme is open to riders aged 16-19 ONLY
- Riders do not need to have any formal academic qualifications but they must have the potential to achieve GCSE level Maths and English if they don’t already hold them
- Riders must not be attending University during the AASE programme
- Riders must live or work in England and be available to attend all training camps.
- Showjumping experience required:
You must meet specific criteria set by British Showjumping:
- Have a horse on the equine pathway OR
- Have a horse that has attended young horse training with a reference from a coach
- Have jumped 2 double clears on horses at 1.30m OR
- Have jumped 2 double clears on horses at 1.20m showing progression, with a Reference from a coach.
