The 2010 John Whitaker International Pony European Team travelled to Bishop Burton College earlier on in the week to compete in their European Championships.
Yesterday saw Pony Riders from across the world compete against each other in the first of the Individual qualifying competitions.
Amy Inglis and Jessica Mendoza both stood out as serious contenders jumping foot perfect rounds.
13 year old Amy Inglis from Haywards Heath, West Sussex partnered Mandy Hall’s 9 year old bay gelding Nils D’hurl Vent. Amy jumped a faultless round in a time of 82.31 seconds placing her 5th on the leader board after round one.
14 year old Jessica Mendoza from Chippenham, Wiltshire teamed up with her mother’s 12 year old chestnut mare Tixylix. This partnership who are renowned for their consistency did not disappoint as they produced a clear in a time of 83.47 seconds, putting them in 11th place after round one.
13 year old Emily Roe from Lincoln partnered her father’s 13 year old grey gelding Aroldo. Emily and Aroldo had an unlucky pole down and were just outside the time giving her a total score of 5 faults.
16 year old Lara Whiteway from Preston Lancashire rode her mother’s 17 year old bay gelding ABC Juri. This combination are making their debut at European Championship level and finished the first round on a total score of 8 faults.
All of the above 4 combinations will take part in the Team competition which takes place today at 13:00 where they will compete against all the nations for the 2010 Pony European Championship Title.
