Alexander Stormonth took Top Spot in Haygain Pony Discovery Second Round at Bishop Burton Arena
Wednesday 13 July 2016

Fifteen year-old Alexander Stormonth cantered into the top spot of the final Haygain Pony Discovery Second Round of the season in fine style on board Popacatapetal to register for the Championship Final at the British Showjumping National Championships, Stoneleigh, in August.
Nineteen ponies and riders contended the first round, and these were eventually reduced to ten for the third and final round against the clock.
Alexander from Carnwath, Lancashire set a sizzling standard from second draw on the Irish-bred 7-year-old mare Popacatapetal, and it proved unbeatable. The pair stayed ahead of their rivals by 0.73 seconds.
Fourteen year-old Lauren Roach from Slough, Berkshire took second with Makita, an 8-year-old dun mare sired by Arkan III she has ridden for 15 months. Thirteen year-old Harry Wood from Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland was hot on her heels for third place with the 7-year-old mare Going Platinum, just 0.13 seconds in arrears.
