Alexander Mclean Wins Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round at Bishop Burton College

Alexander Mclean and Red Flamenco fought off forty-one other combinations to scoop the top spot in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Second Round held during the Pony Premier Show at Bishop Burton College Beverley, East Yorkshire.

From the initial starting field, just three made it through into the final jump off and this was enough to see the three direct qualifying places on offer for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at Horse of the Year Show secured. Two riders went on to produce treble clears.

The fastest treble clear was delivered by 13 year-old Alexander Mclean from Lasswade, Midlothian on Marjory McNaughton’s 13 year-old liver chestnut mare Red Flamenco. Their third immaculate round was produced in 47.26 seconds.

Second place was taken by 16 year-old Millie Dickinson from Harpenden, Hertfordshire and she rode Jan Dickinson’s 10 year-old bay gelding, Claddagh Prince. Millie delivered the only other treble clear performance and crossed the finish line in 51.53 seconds.

Cameron Rogan, aged 14, from Kirkmuirhill, Lanarkshire took the third and final qualification spot with Landlord III, a 9 year-old dark bay gelding owned by Margaret Ballantyne. This combination was unfortunate to collect 4 faults in the final off in 41.56 seconds, but their earlier clear rounds ensured that they bagged a qualification spot.

With the three direct qualifying tickets for the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show having already been secured, the combinations in fourth and fifth took home the chance to compete in the Squibb Group Pony Foxhunter Masters at the forthcoming British Showjumping National Championships.
