Courtney Young takes the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery Championship with Double M Sensation

Courtney Young scored a third championship win at the British Showjumping National Championships for Julian Mincher’s Double M Stud with victory in the Nupafeed Supplements Senior Discovery title on Double M Sensation.

“She’s amazing and has had a brilliant summer.  She’s very careful and loves winning, the more you dare her, the more she enjoys it,” said Courtney.

Julian, who is now based in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, won a title himself with his ‘favourite’ Carter Rouge in the Grade B Final while his long-standing groom Catherine Housman topped the 5-year-old Championship on Honky Cat.

Courtney, 21, who has trained with Julian for a couple of years and started riding for him in April, travelling up from her Essex base each week, made a cause for celebration despite the damp weather.  It was no fluke as 33 competitors from an original field of 81 returned to contend the jump-off after clearing the 12-fence 1.10m track designed by Ben Townley.  Courtney negotiated the shortest round second time out, easing ahead on Julian’s home-bred Firkov Du Rouet x Up to Date Miltoo 5-year-old to take a 0.64 second win.

“I kept moving and got a good angle over the skinny vertical in the middle which set me up for the turn into the double, she’s got a very good brain for a 5-year-old and very quick across the ground, especially for a little horse,” said Courtney.

Competitive in the ring, Sensation conserves her energy at home.

“She loves her bed and is always lying down sleeping.  I have to go and ride another one and catch her when she standing up!  But as soon as I’m on her, she’s ready to do her job,” said Courtney.

Chris Moyce had to settle for second place on Seranno 1st and Lula Isaac netted third spot riding Carrickview Under Cover.
