2009 British Showjumping National Amateur and Veterans Championships

The 2009 British Showjumping National Amateur and Veterans Championships took place at Aintree Racecourse last week. There were competitions for all levels of amateur rider, from the 90cms through to the 1.20m Grand Prix’s, and for the more mature rider, the Veteran Grand Prix’s.
Norman Proffitt from Cannock, Staffordshire was crowned The British Showjumping National Minor Veteran Champion for 2009. Norman was riding Audrey Evans bay twelve year old gelding Patent. Norman also claimed third place on his own eleven year old bay gelding Opium Du Centre. Second place went to Sadie Burchmore riding Jack Eames bay thirteen year old gelding Otto II.
The 2009 British Showjumping Major Veteran Championship was won by Sadie Burchmore from Northychurch, Hertfordshire riding Jack Eames ten year old bay mare, White Bless. Caroline Etherington riding her own ten year old grey gelding, Rea Diamond took second place and third place went to Alison Brown riding Allen Brown’s ten year old bay gelding, Dark Rebel.
The 2009 90cm British Showjumping National Amateur Grand Prix Final was won by Charlotte Arnold from Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland riding her own eleven year old piebald gelding, Ballykissangel VI. Second place went to Angela Mills riding her own sixteen year old bay mare, Gibside Sarleen and Amy Jimmison riding Samantha Jimmison’s six year old bay gelding, Whidor was third.
The 2009 1.00m British Showjumping National Amateur Grand Prix Final was won by Angela Mills from Haswell, Co. Durham riding her own sixteen year old bay mare Gibside Sarleen. Second place went to Millie Singleton riding Liz Singleton’s eleven year old bay mare Naturella with in third place Emily Palmer riding Gillian Palmer’s eight year old bay mare, Chantilly 16.
The 2009 1.10m British Showjumping National Amateur Grand Prix Final saw Alison Line from Boldon Colliery, Tyne & Wear riding her own twelve year old chestnut mare, Arona take first place with second place going to John Garton-Pope riding Victoria Todd’s seven year old liver chestnut gelding, Valesco II. Third place went to Caroline Fitzalan Howard riding her own seven year old chestnut mare, Valleska.
The 2009 1.20m British Showjumping National Amateur Grand Prix Final was won by Ian Wynne Llangollen, Clwyd riding Ann Wolley Dod’s nine year old dark bay gelding, Don Douglas who were also the winners of the British Showjumping Amateur Classic Championship at HOYS in October. Second place went to Danielle Willett riding Regan Willett’s ten year old bay gelding, Simon Segal with in third place Caroline Ravenscroft riding her own nine year old bay gelding Tibor II.
“What a super show”, commented one competitor, “the facilities here are fantastic, I have been able to have a clean horse all week as there is a hot water tap right outside my stable, I have loved every minute of it and look forward to qualifying for next years championships.”
