Robert Bevis & Courtney Z Shine in Spain
Monday 16 March 2015
Robert Bevis from Wrexham, Clwyd with his own 14 year-old grey gelding Courtney Z, put in a brilliant performance in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain yesterday to secure 1st place in the 1.50m Grand Prix.
It was a class that was incredibly hard fought with a total of fifty-nine combinations coming forward to contest the class and a dozen of those coming forward to the jump-off on zero penalties. To say it was hard fought is in fact an understatement, as the jump off saw both Robert and Irish rider Dermott Lennon with Loughview Loulou jump clear within exactly the same time of 37.83 seconds. To have two riders stop the clock within the same 100’th of a second is incredibly unusual and with Rob notoriously known as a fast jump-off rider it just serves to show how no stone was left unturned.
Reed Kessler with Cos I Can for the USA finished in 3rd place with their clear in 39.33 seconds with Henk Van de Pol and Spartacus taking 4th with a clear in 40.51 seconds. The Union Flag also appeared in 5th place with Ashkari and Yazmin Pinchen, a horse she has produced since a novice.
