Jonathan Egmore hit top gear in the opening Nupafeed Supplements Discovery Second Round at The Suffolk Equestrian Centre with Moonlight R.
A total of 40 competitors stepped up to tackle the 1.05m track built by course designer Toby Bancroft in the three-round competition, with 19 horse and rider combinations battling it out in the final jump-off for the three qualifying spots.
Nine continued their run of success and jumped double clear, but it was Norfolk based Jonathan who kept his cool and rode tight turns, securing the win by almost 5 seconds and the only rider to break the 40 second barrier.
“I had an early draw in the final round, which was quite big. It was one of those where you have to plan whether to jump a steady clear and put the pressure on those who follow or risk going fast but having a pole down. Luckily it worked out perfect for us,” said Jonathan.
“I’ve only had him a few months really, and he had not done much prior even though he is eight. He had a break over the winter, has only been to two or three shows since but has now qualified so I’m really pleased with him.
“I feel like he’ll just keep going, the ability if there. He’ll step up now to the Newcomers Second Rounds and we will hopefully get our Foxhunter double clears too.”
Isobelle Bradley chased hard with Julie Jones’ Snipe In Time to pick up second place with Siobhan Edmunds clinching third with her own Nova-Lee.
In the Senior British Novice Second Rounds, Thomas Bartrup outpaced his 43 rivals to top qualifier class riding Odine II. Shari Vincent slotted into second place with Crystal Klar, just 1.58 second off with pace whilst Summer Wright picked up third aboard Nimo I, a further 3.14 seconds off the pace.
