Fraser Reed and SES Jumeirah claim a winning double in Bonheiden

Fraser Reed notched up a winning double with Matthew Pike’s SES Jumeirah in Bonheiden, Belgium.

The pair started off with and early victory in the 2* 1.40m speed, easily outpacing 51 rivals with a handsome 3.41 sec to spare.  It set them up for a win 24 hours later.

Stepping up to the world ranking 2* 1.45m, the pair proved unbeatable.

“All the world ranking classes are difficult enough, big enough and technical, and it was technical enough for the amount of clear rounds,” assessed Fraser.

Fourteen of the original 63 starters mastered course-designer Henk Linders’ 12-fence, 15-effort track to advance to the jump-off.  Fraser made short work of the shortened and raised course, guiding the Diamant De Semilly x Douglas nine-year-old into a 0.13 second win.  Donald Whitaker eased Royal Red Van Het Lindehof into third.

“It was always going to be fast with a good number of clears; I knew I’d have to be quick, but some of the fast ones had already gone and I was drawn late,” said Fraser.  “Jumeirah loves being at a show, he’s always up for it and ready to go; not fiery exactly but never dull.  He’s actually got a small stride for his size – the rider that finished second took one less stride everywhere in the jump-off, but he’s so fast, we got the win.”

Donald and Royal Red went on to take third in the 2* Grand Prix.  Only nine from the field of 56 returned for the jump-off, Joe and the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve x Kannan nine-year-old posting another flawless round to finish 0.47 seconds in arrears of the winning time.

Chad Fellows notched up a win on day one, topping the 2* 1.40m aboard Creevyquinn Pearl.  Fifty-one competitors came forward in this speed class, Chad and the 12-year-old Cardento 933 daughter flying into the top spot by 1.05 seconds.  Chad also picked up fourth on NPS Klooney.

Chloe Winchester was also a winner, heading the 51-strong 2* 1.35m speed on the 10-year-old ABC Saving Grace (Kannan x Cruising) by 0.16 seconds.

Jessica Hewlett notches up a victory double in Samorin

Jessica Hewlett scored a victory double on the Danube Champions Tour in Samorin, Slovakia.

Jessica eased Ilmar HBC into a win in the 3* Silver Tour 1.40m.  Ninety-three riders contended this class, and with 54 qualifying for the jump-off, it was going to be a massive task to win.  Nonetheless, Jessica wasn’t daunted and galvanised determination to fire into the top spot on the Dantos x Voltaire 13-year-old to record a 0.08 second win.

The Under 25 1.35m speed also fell to Jessica as the nine-year-old Arezzo VDL stallion Mosandro Van Perbeemd jumped into the top spot by 0.32 seconds, beating 39 rivals.

Ellen Whitaker steered Tilly Shaw’s 11-year-old mare Korlenski (Cornet Obolensky x Numero Uno) into third in the 3* 1.45m Silver Tour Final.  Seventy-eight competitors came forward over this speed track, Ellen finishing 0.63 seconds off the pace.

Lance Whitehouse was in the frame in the Six-Bar, but one rail down in the fifth and final round dropped the 11-year-old Kluidini (Luidam x Sam R) down to third in the three-way decider.

VANCOUVER

Charlie Jones picked up two podium places at Thunderbird Show Park in Vancouver – Langley BC.

Charlie jumped into second in the $31,100 USD 3* George and Dianne Tidball Legacy 1.45m with Morice F Z.  Twenty-six riders contended the 1.45m speed track with nine posting clear rounds, Charlie and the 10-year-old Morice taking an easy trip to finish more than four second behind the winner, Ireland’s James Chawke on One Edition.

The Holsteiner 11-year-old Casirado 3 claimed third in the 3* Yeti 1.40m Challenge for Charlie, four faults in the first round denying them a jump-off chance.

Jamie Gornall slipped Earthquake MXL Z into second in the $10,000 National 1.40m Grand Prix.  Five of the original 21 accessed the jump-off, Jamie and the eight-year-old Earthquake (Emerald x Elvis Ter Putte) finishing 1.04 seconds in arrears of Canada’s Laura Jayne Tidball aboard MacGyver.
