Zoe Smith wins the SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre

Bury Farm Equestrian Centre in Slapton, Buckinghamshire played host to the most recent SEIB Winter Novice Qualifier on Sunday morning during their Winter Classic Show. Forty-two combinations stepped up to take on Course Designer David Cole’s 1.10m track with the hopes of gaining one of two qualifying places on offer for the Championship Final at the Royal International Horse Show, Hickstead, West Sussex later in the summer season.
Fifteen of the initial starters jumped clear in the first round with only two of those going on to keep a clean slate in the jump-off, securing themselves the top two places. Zoe Smith from Spalding in Lincolnshire took the honours. She guided her own 6 year-old Jamaar, by Arezzo VDL, home in a time of 39.94 seconds, knocking 2.29 seconds off her closest rival’s time.
Second place was awarded to Harry Bateman and Justine Armstrong-Small’s Ballypatrick Liberty. The pair produced the only other double clear of the class and crossed the finish line in 42.23 seconds.
