WILLIAM WHITAKER & FANDANGO POST A GB WIN AT GLOCK

Monday 02 February 2015

The CSI 3* Grand Prix at the Glock Horse Performance Centre in Treffen, Austria saw a Union Flag raised when William Whitaker from Huddersfield produced the fastest double clear of the competition.

Competing Fandango III, a 12 year –old bay gelding owned by his partner Elisabeth Fredlund he was  amongst an almost forty strong field that tackled Frank Rothenberger’ts 1.55m course.   The fact that only five combinations managed to achieve a clear in the first round, two of whom were British, it goes without that the saying that the course was a difficult and testing one

The jump-off course, as equally testing, almost cut the jump off field in half once again in terms of penalties with only three of the five managing to jump another faultless round.  It was Will and Fandango that raised the crowds to their feet when he raced across the finish line in a time of 35.23 seconds, just a fraction of a second faster than Omer Karaevli from Turkey who clocked 35.57 seconds with the only other double clear of the competition.

John Whitaker with his own and wife Clare’s bay stallion Argento put in an impressive performance within a time of 35.53 seconds, however an unlucky 4 penalties saw them finish in 5th place behind Gerco Schroder and Jaroslaw Skrzyczynski and Crazy Quick.
