William Fletcher crowned as the National under 18 Champion

Spectators at Championship Arena 2 saw Oxfordshire based William Fletcher crowned as the National under 18 Champion on day four at the British Showjumping National Championships, held at NAEC Stoneleigh in Warwickshire.

Riding 11 year old bay gelding, Persimmon, the pair saw off stiff competition in a highly competitive class. With just five riders through to the jump off and having seen the other riders each pick up faults, Will was last to go so knew he had to go clear. Riding down to the finish, he instantly knew it was his victory as the only rider to produce a double clear.

The combination has only been together for four months and this is only their second 1.40m track. Prior to being with Will, Persimmon competed up to 4 star eventing with Kitty King. “This is Persimmon’s biggest win in a showjumping arena. I’ve seen a big change in him since I’ve had him. I found the course a lot more technical than last year but he loves his job and is good at what he does.”
