Wednesday at Hickstead

A busy day of national classes got the Al Shira'aa Hickstead Derby Meeting underway today, the first day of the show which runs through until Sunday.
Action from the Horsewear Ireland ring saw Robert Whitaker get his Hickstead week off to a great start when winning the Astore & Sons 1.35m Open. He took the win on Strides Hatton Treasure, with Josh Hutchins and Billy Ring finishing runner up with Byony Crippen and Cacharel Z taking 3rd.
Over in the brand new Equine America Ring Three, the first qualifiers for the Al Shira'aa British 5 & 6 Year-Old Championships took place. It was a win for Jackson Reed-Stephenson with the 5 year-old chestnut mare Obelia van de Bischop and Helen Rees with her own 6 year-old chestnut mare Bianca du Rouet.
Tomorrow’s highlights
The first international classes get underway tomorrow at 08:30 hrs with the Stoner Jewellers Vase 1.40m competition and the Bunn Leisure Derby Tankard in the afternoon – which was won last year by Scott Brash. There's also a number of driving championships plus the first leg of the prestigious new Al Shira'aa Under 25 Masters. For those wishing to watch the action first hand General admission is free so do try and get along and soak in the fantastic atmosphere of Hickstead and the historic international arena.
