Friday 13 November 2015

Emily Ward, member of the UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Podium Potential Programme, claimed the top spot this weekend at the penultimate qualifier of the 2015 Dodson & Horrell and the World Class Programme Under 23 Championship series. The qualifier, which was hosted at Addington Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire saw 30 combinations come forward to contest the class on Friday (6 November 2015).
Aboard Anne Bedford’s Remi Cavalleri, Cheshire based Ward produced the only double clear round of the competition to take the top prize and the maximum points with the nine year old mare. After some good performances around the 1.45m Bob Ellis built track, second place went to Sally Hopkinson with David Hopkinson Ltd’s Temple Marple, whilst Charlene Bastone and Newbridges Master Brown, owned by Stacey Webb, secured third.
Alicia Smallman (with her own Nadzaro Bliniere), Abbe Burchmore-Eames (with Jack Eames’ Wilandri E) and Stephen Crosby (with TGF Rubin, owned by Trevor Farrington) completed the top six, all receiving Training Vouchers, with the top ten places taking qualifying points.
Through the qualifiers and an accumulation of points, riders aim to qualify for the final, which takes place at the London International Horse Show, Olympia in December. There was a total prize fund of £1650 for the qualifier, and Training Vouchers to the value of £725 awarded to the first six prize-winning riders currently eligible for British Team Selection.
The final qualifier for the 2015 season takes place at Morris Equestrian Centre in Ayrshire next Saturday (21 November).
