Seven combinations share the win in the Prestige Italia Big Star Championship Qualifier at SouthView Equestrian Centre

The 2019 Prestige Italia Big Star Championship Qualifiers headed up north for the final time this year on Friday to SouthView Equestrian Centre in Winsford, Cheshire where thirty-two combinations came forward with the hopes of gaining a place in the Championship Final.

The Prestige Italia Big Star Championship, formerly known as the National Six Year Old Championship, was renamed in 2017 in honour of Big Star, a previous winner of the National Six Year Old Championship who went on to win the Individual Gold medal at Rio 2016.

Results are based on clear rounds and the competing combinations do not jump against the clock, therefore all riders were aiming to achieve a treble clear to ensure a qualifying place for the Prestige Italia Big Star Championship Final which will be held during the British Showjumping National Championships at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire (6th – 11th August 2019).

Thirteen of the initial starting field managed to navigate their way round Gillian Milner’s first round track successfully but they were whittled down to seven for the final round, all of whom produced an all-important treble clear.

Rhys Jones continued his winning streak with No Limit V, this pair recently took the win in the Nupafeed Senior Discovery Second Round at Aintree Equestrian Centre. Nathan Bull partnered Celesta VD Helle Z, Caroline Ravencroft takes through Nepal VD Withoeve and Newton DB ridden by Katie Pytches also progresses onto the final. Daisy McKinlay takes through the French bred Darjeeling Desir whilst Brett Kenyon piloted McQueen. The British bred Millfield Counterfeit ridden by Simon Buckley also took a qualifying place.
